Joan’s story
As far back as Mom can remember, she was surrounded by good design. Even with little money and a modest home, her mother seemed to be always decorating. New wallpaper or slipcovers transformed their home over and over, and somehow she always created beauty and warmth with her art. Mom’s father was also an artist at heart, and in his spare time poured his passion into intricate architectural renderings, some of which hang proudly in her home today. Mom spent her time as a child doodling house plans and decorating imaginary rooms, and carried her love of creating into her own family home. She began collecting her personal trove of antiques as soon as she could afford to do so.
Krissie’s storY
I grew up in that home…another one being constantly remodeled, re-painted, and re-upholstered, and slowly being filled with rare and precious treasures. I would spend sleepless adolescent nights re-arranging my bedroom furniture, perusing design magazines, literally dreaming about houses, and taking junk-store jaunts with mom. On family vacations, the car would have to stop at every antique store on the road side, so that the two of us could try to unearth another hidden gem.
By the time I was in 5th grade, it was settled. One day Mom and I would own a little antiques shop of our own.We began with a trial run, hosting home antiques shows in the 90’s, and spent ten years together in running Tutto Bello Corporate Gifts, learning the business of high-end retail. Finally in 2003, our dream became a reality, with the opening of Trouve’ Antiques, Garden and Gifts, in the heart of Phoenix.
“We’ll just hang our shingle, and see what happens,” we said to each other. Before long, and to our surprise and joy, we caught the attention of local magazines and newspapers, and eventually attracting mentions in national publications like Traditional Home Magazine, Country Home Magazine, and with the addition of the Carmel shop in '09, The New York Times travel section. We have been blessed that Trouve’ has been noted to be a “well curated” collection of fine European antiques, great vintage items, modern accessories, and beautiful garden furnishings. We just love the process... the travelling, the treasure hunting, the re-decorating, the creating... and we are more than thankful for the gift of working at our shared passion together!
